What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Cellenis Derma PRP treatments use the powerful growth factors in PRP to improve skin quality and quickly regenerate healthy cells. (1) PRP is a highly concentrated solution of blood platelets suspended in plasma. Within the blood, there are white blood cells, red blood cells, plasma, and other elements that make up this autologous substance. PRP treatments work by extracting the elements of the blood that contain the highest concentration of platelets and reinjecting it. Platelets are an important source of natural growth factors in the body, responsible for cellular turnover and tissue repair.
How Does PRP Treatment Work?
Through centrifugation, the blood spins at a very fast rate until it separates into parts by density. Providers inject the remaining plasma directly into the skin to stimulate new cell growth and collagen production. The platelets encourage the targeted skin to heal by adhering to damaged cell walls and forming a “plug” that stimulates rapid restoration. This treatment can restore the skin barrier, promote hair growth, and stimulate extracellular matrix regrowth. (2)
PRP treatments use autologous material, meaning the patient receives platelets derived from their own blood. This makes for a high safety profile and little room for rejection. It requires only a simple blood draw and injection protocol, allowing the patient to benefit from their own cellular makeup. (2)

During your private consultation with us, you will meet with one of our talented providers to talk about what PRP can do for you. They will perform a physical examination of the treatment area and inquire about your medical history to determine your procedure plan. Next, they will ask you questions about your cosmetic concerns and aesthetic desires to better understand your circumstances. You will have time to inquire about the next steps and your projected results during this meeting. After your consultation, a member of our staff will assist you with scheduling your next appointments with us.
Preparation
Before your treatment, you should cleanse your skin with gentle products and keep your routine simple. Refrain from using harsh ingredients like retinol and vitamin C on the day of your PRP injections. These can irritate the skin and negatively impact treatment results. Three weeks before your appointment, please discontinue steroid medications. You should also avoid NSAIDs and herbal supplements that thin the blood. This helps prevent bruising and negative effects during and after Cellenis Derma PRP injections. If you smoke, you should refrain from tobacco and nicotine use for at least 3 days before and after treatment to ensure a swift recovery and minimize inflammation.
Eat a balanced, healthy meal and drink plenty of water leading up to and on the day of your appointment. Your provider gives you more complete preoperative instructions during your private consultation. Please follow these closely for optimal results.
Cellenis Derma PRP Treatment Steps
Cellenis uses a one-spin protocol and requires small blood donations for all PRP treatments. Your provider draws your blood with a special vacuum tube that contains Cellenis’ separation gel and an anticoagulant. They then place the blood into a centrifuge machine that spins at a high speed to separate it into parts. The separation gel keeps the contents of the blood from reintegrating. Your provider then uses small, thin syringes to remove the PRP from the surrounding red blood cells, platelet-poor plasma, and granulocytes. Finally, they carefully inject the PRP into the treatment area. The treatment process usually takes 60 to 90 minutes to complete.
Recovery & Results
There is no downtime associated with PRP injection. You may experience slight irritation around the injection sites, but this subsides quickly. Do not rub or massage the injection sites to avoid migration and further discomfort in the area. You should avoid applying lotions, makeup, or creams on the skin for 24 hours after injection. Make sure to limit your UV exposure and apply sunscreen when in direct contact with these harmful rays.
PRP injection results in greater collagen and elastin fiber production. The effects of this may not be visible right away. Your skin will look tighter, brighter, and more voluminous as the new collagen works to repair damage within the skin. Skin dullness or discoloration will lessen and your complexion will be more even while fine lines and wrinkles begin to smooth. These results continue to increase and enhance the skin long after treatment.
PRP with Microneedling
PRP injection is commonly combined with skin resurfacing treatments like microneedling. During this procedure, your provider uses a device with many small needles to repeatedly puncture the skin and trigger its healing processes. The continuous and controlled damage encourages cellular turnover within the skin, increasing collagen and elastin production. To further increase skin rejuvenation, we can perform microneedling before Cellenis Derma PRP. This greatly improves the skin’s ability to absorb the plasma and enhance overall results.
