Microneedling with PRP lexington

Microneedling is a cosmetic treatment where the skin is repeatedly punctured with incredibly thin needles that trigger a healing response from the body. This natural healing response works to improve the skin’s youthful, unblemished appearance. Microneedling is incredible for smoothing out lines and wrinkles, evening skin tone, refreshing your countenance, tightening skin, and fading scars – yes, even those stubborn acne scars.

For many of our clients, they begin to notice a vibrant change in their appearance after one session. If you or a loved one are struggling with not looking the way you feel, might we recommend scheduling a personal consultation or calling us at (859) 276-3883.

About

As you age, your face – specifically the skin on your face – gets weathered by the persistent tides of time. This can show up in the form of wrinkles, lines around the eyes, sun spots or sun damage, scars, and inconsistencies in your skin’s tonality. In many societies, these skin conditions are seen as marks of one getting older. But for many people with these conditions, they still feel young. That’s why we at Plastic Surgeons of Lexington believe in microneedling, because we love offering our clients a solution to those lines and wrinkles. With microneedling, you can get a noticeable, freshening renewal to your skin’s youthful glow.

The process works by using a pen-sized device to poke little, microscopic holes into your skin, creating “wounds” in the epidermis. This in turn triggers your body’s natural response to create collagen and elastin. Then, if you choose to add ACP,  your organically made platelet-rich plasma is applied directly onto those microscopic wounds. This further stimulates the skin’s healing process and collagen production – leaving you with a recharged, budding shine.

Benefits

When choosing a skin rejuvenation treatment, it is important to weigh the benefits. For microneedling, the benefits are pretty strikingly clear.

Customizable Treatments

Skin irregularities can exist on virtually every part of the body, but most noticeably on the face. However, microneedling treatment is also great for the hands and neck. With microneedling, we personally engineer a plan tailored to your individual needs. Aided by a microneedling device that can be set to meet your needs, you can receive a skin rejuvenating treatment that accentuates your individual perfections

Treats A Wide Array of Conditions

As we get older, our collagen production diminishes gradually at first, and then rather rapidly as we crest into our 50s. For women, they lose on average 60% of their collagen production by the time they turn 65.[1] Collagen and elastin are the skin proteins that keeps our skin looking spry and refreshed when we’re young. They are produced deep in our dermis and work to smooth out wrinkles, lines, and heal over any abrasions in the skin. But with decreased levels of natural collagen, our skin soon begins to sag, loosening up in elasticity. However, by microneedling those wrinkles, our skin is inspired to revamp its collagen production. This then smooths out the skin and returns to its baseline glow. Increased collagen and elastin production also helps to diminish the appearance of scars, changes in skin tone, and tightens the appearance of loose skin.

Instant, Lasting Results

To acquire the platelet-rich plasma we utilize for your microneedling session, we first have you draw some blood. This sample will then be centrifuged where the platelet-rich plasma is separated from the rest of the molecules and then extracted. When applied to the area treated with microneedles, this platelet-rich plasma causes an uptick in collagen production.[2] This can cause instant results that can be noticed the day of your microneedling session – and for weeks thereafter. While some results are seen almost immediately, that’s only the beginning. The revamp in collagen production helps to keep skin refreshed, rejuvenated, and rehydrated months after your first microneedling session.

Personal Consultation

During your personal consultation at our office just west of The University of Kentucky, we will first go over your recent medical and surgical history. It is important for us to see if you’ve undergone any past skin treatments and what the effects of those treatments were. Then, we will listen to you. At our office, we strive to make our consultations feel like a dialogue instead of a lecture. So, we will ask you questions about what your desired look resembles, how happy are you with your present skin’s condition, what types of results are you interested in garnering from skin rejuvenating treatments? Then, we will examine the health and laxity of your skin, noting the trouble areas for treatment. Next, we will schedule a time and date for your first microneedling session and give you a list of preparatory steps that should be either adhered to or completed in the interim.

Preparation

Before your microneedling session, it is important to:

  • Avoid excessive exposure to UV rays from the sun or tanning beds. This should be adhered to before and after your microneedling session.
  • Make sure to drink plenty of water. Your skin should be well hydrated before your treatment.
  • Arrive at your appointment with a clean face. It is recommended that you come without makeup so that the chemicals in the makeup don’t interfere with the treatment’s proceedings.
  • Avoid using any complicated skincare products a week before your session such as retinol. These may irritate your skin when the needles and platelet-rich plasma are applied.

Procedure

Before your microneedling procedure, we will apply a topical anesthetic cream to the target areas. While the anesthetic cream is setting in we will draw blood and centrifuge it, readying the platelet-rich plasma for application after microneedling. Once the spots are numb, we will cleanse and dry the skin. Next, an active serum will be applied to your skin to assist the microneedles glide into your skin. Then, based on the treatment areas, we will adjust the microneedling device and then apply it to the target areas. Once the device has done its job, we will apply the platelet-rich plasma. The microscopic holes will absorb the rich, healing properties of the plasma.

Recovery

After your session, your face may feel a little swollen or tender, but for many of our clients this subsides after a day or two. Some also add that their face appears red and inflamed, but this too will subside in the next 24-48 hours. It is important to not wash your face until 8 hours after the treatment and to routinely apply sunscreen if you find yourself outside in prolonged UV exposure.

Results

In the next week, you will gradually start to notice an improvement in your skin’s texture. After a few more treatments, the appearance of those stubborn lines, wrinkles, and acne scars will greatly diminish. To see the most optimal results, it is important to keep up with your skin care routine, avoid prolonged sunlight, and stay hydrated. The health enriching benefits of microneedling can be enhanced when the skin is properly cared for.
