National Healthy Skin Month

This month we are going to focus on skin. After all, it is the largest organ of the body and deserves our attention. Day after day we see patients who want to have healthier looking skin. Who doesn’t?  How we care for our skin not only affects how it looks now, but what it will look like down the road.  Too many late nights in college?  Don’t worry! If the damage has already been done, there are still things you can do you achieve younger, brighter, healthier looking skin.  In this three-part blog series, we will cover Laser Therapy Rejuvenation, Botox, and we will talk about some of our favorite skin care products.  During Healthy Aging Month, we talked about some preventative measures to help slow down the hands of time.  These are also measures you can take to help achieve healthy skin!  Here they are as a refresher:

  1. Stay out of the sun and wear SPF daily.  We all know the sun can have harmful effects on skin. Avoiding the sun and sun lamps will help your skin have a more youthful appearance down the road.
  2. Drink Water! Your skin, like any other organ, needs water to function properly.  Drinking water will keep your skin hydrated and give it a more youthful appearance.
  3. Put down the cigarettes. Smoking can make your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — the fibers that give your skin strength and elasticity.
  4. Eat a healthy diet. You’ve heard the saying “you are what you eat.”  Eating a healthy balanced diet rich in fruit, vegetables, and lean protein can give you the nutrients you need to have a healthy glow.

It’s never too late to start taking measures to improve your skin and overall health.  However, if you have already started to see fine lines, sun spots, or acne scarring, Laser Therapy Rejuvenation might be an option for you.  Stay tuned for our next post as we dive into DOT Therapy.
