Brow Lift Plastic Surgeons of Lexington Lexington, Knoxville, Cincinnati

The brow lift, or forehead lift, is a procedure that elevates the eyebrows and forehead to rejuvenate a patient’s appearance and create a more youthful look. Our skin naturally loses its natural tightness as we age, also known as its elasticity. This is further complicated by factors such as lifestyle, stress, diet, and environmental factors like pollution and ultraviolet exposure. A common effect of aging, especially in the face, is descending eyebrows from lax forehead skin.

The skilled board-certified surgeons at Plastic Surgeons of Lexington understand the physical and mental drawbacks of loose facial skin. We make it our main goal to help you fix these issues so you can live a happy life with a youthful, glowing appearance. If you are experiencing sagging brows, there are surgical options available to help you correct this issue. Take the first step toward facial rejuvenation by scheduling a consultation with one of our providers.

We are happy to serve the residents of Lexington, Knoxville, Cincinnati, and Northern KY, and strive to offer the best care possible to all of our patients. If you have any further questions or would prefer to schedule over the phone, please call our Lexington office today at (859) 276-3883 and speak with one of our specialists.

About the Brow Lift

Our expressions are often visible signs of how we feel. When we are angry or worried, we tend to furrow our forehead or brow. If your brow is low or sagging, people may think you are angry or upset, when you are not at all. If you are bothered by the development of a sagging brow, an eyebrow lift may be the right solution for you.

Ptosis is the medical term for sagging. As our eyebrows become ptotic, in addition to creating false facial expressions, our eyesight can also be negatively affected. Many individuals will also appear to be exhausted or poorly rested when this is not the case. (1)

This condition is most common in patients above the age of 50. (2) While skin aging is a natural process, many patients are left dissatisfied with their appearance and seek corrections to improve their happiness and self-confidence. Additionally, obstructions to the visual field can reduce the efficiency of one’s eyesight. Left untreated, this can result in neck and back pain from regularly tilting one’s head to see properly.

A brow lift corrects a low-positioned or sagging brow, smoothes furrows across the forehead, and helps to restore a more youthful and relaxed appearance. Brow lifts, like other lift procedures, typically accomplish their goals by tightening the underlying muscles and skin to smooth out the wrinkles that form on the face.

Benefits

Brow lift procedures offer many benefits to patients who are seeking corrections in their foreheads and eyebrows. Plastic Surgeons of Lexington regularly helps patients experience:

  • Improved Appearance: Restores a more youthful and contoured brow line.
  • Increased Confidence: Many individuals feel more self-assured after rejuvenating their appearance.
  • Reduced Forehead Wrinkles: Diminishes fine lines and wrinkles formed by repeated facial expressions.
  • Corrects Eyelid Issues: Often improves the appearance of droopy eyelids by repositioning the eyebrows.
  • Natural Results: With skilled techniques, results can appear very natural and not “overdone”.
  • Long-Lasting Effects: Unlike non-surgical treatments, results from brow lifts last for years.
  • Improved Facial Proportions: Enhances the balance between various facial structures, creating harmony.
  • Youthful Expression: Creates a more alert and approachable demeanor.

Candidates

While eyebrow ptosis is more common in patients above the age of 50, brow lifts are available to any patient who is experiencing the symptoms of the condition. If you have any wrinkling around your eyes or on your forehead, or if the skin anywhere from the bridge of your nose and above is abnormally loose, then we encourage you to schedule a consultation with one of the providers at Plastic Surgeons of Lexington.

Personal Consultation

Your brow lift will be individualized according to factors such as your skin, muscle tone, forehead height, and bone structure, as well as taking into consideration the specific conditions you wish to correct. Along with your medical history, all of these factors will be considered when determining the appropriate technique or combination of procedures to best achieve your realistic goals. When you meet with us, you will discuss these goals, your motivations behind seeking a brow lift, and the history of your loosened skin. With this information, we will create a treatment plan that is customized to your specific case.

Preparation

Your surgeon will give you instructions on how to best prepare for your procedure after your consultation. You will likely receive prescriptions for pain management medications and antibiotics to assist in your healing. We recommend filling these before your procedure date. Avoid alcohol and nicotine for at least two weeks before surgery. Additionally, you must arrange transportation to and from your procedure.

Procedure

An eyebrow lift may take two hours or more, depending on the technique performed and the scale of the procedure. Most patients receive either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. This ensures comfort throughout the operation.

There are several types of brow lifts, and the appropriate technique depends on individual anatomy and desired results. The main techniques include:

  • Classic Brow Lift: Involves making an incision across the upper forehead and removing excess skin and tissue. This technique is ideal for patients with significant sagging or heavy brows.
  • Endoscopic Brow Lift: Utilizing small incisions hidden behind the hairline, this minimally invasive option allows for less scarring and faster recovery. It involves the use of an endoscope, which is a camera that helps guide the surgeon. (1)
  • Temporal Brow Lift: Also referred to as a limited incision brow lift, it targets the outer brow areas. Smaller incisions are made near the temples to achieve a subtle lift.

Your surgeon will decide which method is best for your case at your consultation.

Incisions are typically closed with removable sutures, skin adhesives, surgical tape, or special clips. Brow elevation may be maintained by the use of permanent sutures, small surgical screws, or an absorbable fixation device placed inconspicuously at the temples.

Recovery

After the procedure, patients typically experience swelling and bruising around the brow and forehead areas. Pain levels are manageable and can be treated with prescribed medication. It is important to keep your incisions clean and regularly change your dressings in the first few days after your procedure.

We recommend that you take at least a week off from work to recover. You must avoid any heavy lifting, violent sneezing, sudden head movements, and strenuous activity for at least a month. Regularly experiencing these can lead to complications like asymmetry and seromas. (1)

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the eyelids. It can involve removing excess skin, fat, or muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids. As individuals age, they may experience changes such as sagging eyelids, puffiness, or under-eye bags, which can lead to a tired or aged appearance. This procedure not only addresses aesthetic concerns but may also improve vision if excessive skin obstructs the field of view.

Facelift

A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure aimed at improving the visible signs of aging in the face and neck region. Over time, factors such as aging, sun exposure, gravity, and lifestyle choices can lead to sagging skin, deepening wrinkles, and loss of volume, making individuals appear older than they feel. A facelift can significantly rejuvenate the lower third of the face and neck, offering aesthetic outcomes that restore vibrancy and youthfulness. It is a versatile treatment that can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures, such as neck lifts or dermal fillers, to achieve a comprehensive anti-aging treatment plan.

FAQ

Will I have scars from my brow lift?

Our surgeons take special care to minimize the scars left by incisions. Any scarring will be hidden by sideburns and your upper hairline. We use sharp scalpel blades to minimize tissue damage and treat all incisions with special compounds to help reduce scarring and keep it minimally visible.

Can I combine other procedures with a brow lift?

Yes, many patients choose to combine brow lifts with eyelid surgery or facelifts for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Do I need a brow lift if my vision is unobstructed?

If you think you would benefit from a brow lift, then we encourage you to schedule a consultation and proceed with planning. Many patients do not realize that their vision is obstructed until their consultation or even until their procedure is completed. Even if it is not, a brow lift can help you eliminate wrinkles and rejuvenate your facial appearance.

How long do brow lift results last?

Results from a brow lift can last for many years, although natural aging will continue to affect the skin over time.
